چکیده

The placenta is located between the maternal body and the fetus and is an organ indispensable for the fetus, with the combined functions of endocrine gland, lung, kidney, liver and digestive tract, but the mechanism of these functions is still obscure in many points. In the present study, electronmicroscopic observa tions were undertaken to study the mode of transition of substances through the normal placenta and the route of transportation of administered substance from the maternal to the fetal side, through the chorionic villi of placenta.

Characterization of human placental explants: morphological, biochemical and physiological studies using first and third trimester placenta.

The primary objective of this study was to characterize an in-vitro model of the human placenta using morphological, biochemical and physiological parameters. Placental villi were obtained from normal first trimester and term pregnancies. The villi were incubated with Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium: Ham's F12 nutrient mixture in a shaking water bath at 37 degrees C for up to 310 min. The vi...

Morphometric Evaluation of Preeclamptic Placenta Using Light Microscopic Images

Deficient trophoblast invasion and anomalies in placental development generally lead to preeclampsia (PE) but the inter-relationship between placental function and morphology in PE still remains unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the morphometric features of placental villi and capillaries in preeclamptic and normal placentae. The study included light microscopic images of placental...

Glucose transporters expression in the placental terminal villi of preeclampsia and intrauterine growth retardation complicated pregnancies

Introduction: Transmembrane sodium-independent glucose transporters (GLUTs) play an important role in both placental and fetal development by the providing transplacental glucose transport. Abnormal GLUT-1 and GLUT-3 placental expression could play a role in such late pregnancy complications development as preeclampsia and intrauterine growth retardation. Materials and Methods: Immunohistochemi...

First Princiles Study of the Electron Transport Properties of Buthane-dithiol Nano-Molecular Wire

We report a first-principles study of electrical transport in a single molecular conductor consisting of a buthane-dithiol sandwiched between two Au (100) electrodes. We show that the current was increased by increasing of the external voltage biases. The projected density of states (PDOS) and transmission coefficients (T(E)) under various external voltage biases are analyzed, and it suggests t...

The Effects of Passive Smoking on the Placental Barrier: A Light Microscopic Study

Passive exposure to tobacco smoke causes ultrastructural changes in placental vasculature. It was endeavoured to observe under the light microscope, the endothelial cells of the capillaries and to look for microscopic changes in the vasculosyncytial membranes in the terminal villi of placentae of passive smokers exposed largely to bidi smoke. To study effect of passive smoking on placental vasc...
